Path Set to Get Rid of Obamacare Under a New President, Byrne Says

Press Release

Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) issued the following statement in response to President Barack Obama’s veto of a bill that would dismantle Obamacare and eliminate federal funding to Planned Parenthood.

Byrne said: “I am disappointed but not surprised that President Obama has chosen to put liberal special interest groups over the American people. Hardworking Americans have made clear that they do not want Obamacare, which has caused healthcare costs to increase all across the country. It is a shame the President refuses to swallow his pride and admit that this law is not working.

The silver lining here is that we now have a path forward to get rid of Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood once a different President is in the White House. The American people have now seen the path toward two very different Americas, and voters will have a clear choice in November.”

Earlier this week, the House passed  H.R. 3762, the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act. The bill completely dismantles Obamacare and cuts off all funding to Planned Parenthood, two top conservative priorities. This vote marked the first time a bill repealing Obamacare passed both the House and the Senate.

The legislation used an expedited process known as budget reconciliation to overcome the 60 vote threshold that is normally required for bills to pass the Senate. The 1974 Congressional Budget Act created a special process reserved exclusively for matters relating to federal spending.

Earlier this week, Congressman Byrne delivered a speech on the House floor in support of the legislation. You can watch and download that video by clicking here.
