Press Release

Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) released the following statement after the Department of Treasury’s Office of Gulf Coast Restoration announced plans to award a RESTORE Act grant of $9,989,313 to the City of Mobile to construct the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail. The grant will be distributed to the City of Mobile through the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR).

Byrne said: “Today’s announcement is big news for both Mobilians and tourists to Southwest Alabama. This significant investment of RESTORE Act funds from Treasury will add usable greenspace that furthers the beautification of the City of Mobile. I offer my appreciation to Secretary Stephen Mnuchin and the Trump Administration for this grant award.”

The Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail will be a linear park system that spans a seven-mile portion of Three Mile Creek. The trail, part of the larger Mobile Greenway Initiative, will include a system of shared paths, trailheads, sidewalks, and bike lanes. It will diversify transportation options to include walking and biking and offer opportunities for increased water based recreational opportunities for Mobile residents and tourists. Construction activities funded through the grant include actual trail construction, sitework, bridge and pedestrian crossings, lighting, landscaping, and trail amenities including water fountains, benches, and signage. Additional funding for the project is being provided by the Federal Highway Administration Transportation Alternatives Program.
