Byrne Calls for New VA Leadership
Fairhope, AL – May 27, 2014 – Today, Representative Bradley Byrne (AL-1) called on Secretary of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) Eric Shinseki to resign amid allegations of mismanagement. Byrne is cosponsoring H.Con.Res. 98, a resolution introduced by Rep. Blake Farenthold (TX-27) urging the President to call for the resignation of Shinseki and replace him with new leadership.
Byrne said: “The Department of Veterans’ Affairs was founded to tend to the specialized needs of veterans across the country as they returned home from war. Recently, the nation has come to realize that the VA is failing to provide even the most basic level of services to our veterans who have earned this care through their service. This is wrong, and urgent action must be taken to reform this system.
“I believe it is time for a fresh start at the VA. The problems that have been allowed to take root here will need aggressive and competent leadership willing to take on the status quo. Change starts from the top. I call on President Obama to take accountability for the failings of Eric Shinseki and install new leadership at the VA that is capable of righting this ship.”
