Byrne Applauds USDA Grant for Washington County Public Library
Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) released the following statement applauding USDA’s announcement of a grant to the Washington County Public Library in Chatom, Alabama.
“Computers and high-speed broadband access are just as or more important for educating today’s students as textbooks, and we cannot let rural areas like Washington County fall behind," said Byrne. “The computers this grant provides will go far towards ensuring students of all ages in Washington County have the tools they need to succeed in today’s global environment. I thank Secretary Perdue and the U.S. Department of Agriculture for their commitment to rural America, and I will continue partnering with them to find opportunities for Southwest Alabama.”
This grant award of $50,000 will be used by Washington County Public Library to purchase computers and software equipment. The current equipment, obtained from Auburn University in 2013, is antiquated and restricts programs and applications necessary for user productivity. The new computers and equipment are essential to the educational function of the library.
