Today, Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) applauded the peace agreement between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
Byrne is a leading voice in Congress on issues relating to Colombia. He has visited Colombia to learn more about the economic, military, and diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
Byrne said: "This development should not be understated. The people of Colombia have been wrecked by a horrific civil war that has taken far too many lives. This agreement just demonstrates that peace and stability are possible.
"I promise to do everything I can through Congress to ensure a lasting peace takes hold. The future of Colombia, but also the future of the Americas, depends on it."
The people of Colombia will hold a vote on the proposed peace referendum on October 2, 2016.
