Byrne Announces Grant Award for Jack Edwards Airport
Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded a grant of $5,371,831 to the City of Gulf Shores to construct an air traffic control tower facility at Jack Edwards National Airport.
Congressman Byrne said: “Jack Edwards National Airport has played an increasingly critical role in the Southwest Alabama economy, and this $5.3 million grant to construct a new air traffic control tower – long a priority in our area – will enable the airport and our region to take another leap forward. The increased service enabled by this tower will benefit not just customers of the airport but the entire Baldwin County economy. I am grateful to the Department of Transportation for awarding these funds, and I am eager to see the effects as the airport and our region continue their growth.”
Provisions in the CARES Act, passed in March, will increase the government contributions to this project from 90 percent to 100 percent. Jack Edwards Airport has the second most landings and takeoffs of all airports in Alabama.
